Kloof water leak could prove very expensive

The Divano home was left full of three inches of mud, which completely blocked the storm water drainage in the driveway.

A KLOOF family is still in the dark about the amount of damage left on their property due to a water leak.

The family said they noticed water dripping out of their banks on Saturday, 20 February.

The source of the leak was eventually traced to Quentin Smythe Road and had been there for some time.

Dot Divano said within hours, their property was filled with water, “Even the heavy rains never caused such damage.”

Through the holes poked into the top of their driveway by the plumbers when they were searching for the leak, there is a clear view that no soil was left underneath the tar area which is a concern for the family.

“Should this happen again, the tar will collapse without any substrate support under.

“Our property was full of three inches of mud, which completely blocked the storm water drainage in the driveway. It needs to be jetted and unblocked. What will happen should there be heavy rains?”

She added that at this point, they do not even know if their house foundation has been compromised with the water sitting there for two days.

“We have asked the municipality to get a contractor out to assess and advise if we have anything to worry about in future months. We called our insurance company and they said they could not help as the leak was outside the property,” said a concerned Divano.

The Highway Mail tried to get a response from the municipality but none was received by the time of going to print.
