Spies brothers are right on track

Corban and Kyle Spies claimed the World Of Motorsport (WOMZA) KZN Regional Champion titles recently.

HIGHWAY brothers and karting track racers, Corban and Kyle Spies claimed the World Of Motorsport (WOMZA) KZN Regional Champion titles, in their respective age groups, recently.

The boys, aged 14 and 11, are members of the KZN Kart Club, based in Camperdown.

Corban, the eldest brother, joined the Junior Max class near the end of 2020 and officially signed up for his first karting championship this year. His younger brother, Kyle, joined the Micro Max class, in 2020.The Micro Max kart has an 8hp engine with a weight limit of 105kg, while the Junior Max kart has a 23hp engine with a weight limit of 145kg.

The karting champs and Curro learners first competed in the national championship, also known as the Rotax Max Challenge, which is a national challenge. They then competed in the Rotax Max African Open, which includes drivers from other African countries.

These competitions led them to the WOMZA KZN Regional Championship, which added up all of the regional race points to determine the champion in each category. Corban’s Results: 6th – Rotax Max Challenge South Africa, 9th – Rotax Max African Open, 1st – WOMZA KZN Regional Championship.

Kyle’s Results: 9th – Rotax Max Challenge South Africa, 6th – Rotax Max African Open, 1st – WOMZA KZN Regional Championship.
