#donateblood: Give the gift of life this Valentine’s month

The SANBS is calling for South Africans to step forward and share the love by donating a unit of blood this February.

MAKE a difference this month of love by donating one unit of liquid love which could save up to three people’s lives.

Go to your nearest mobile blood drive or donor centre to make a blood donation this Valentine’s month.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is responsible for recruiting and collecting blood, plasma, and platelets, they have 185 fixed donor centre sites and conduct more than 6000 mobile donor clinics every year.

“Blood cannot be manufactured and has a limited shelf life, the supply must constantly be replenished. In South Africa, 3 500 blood units are needed daily to maintain a stable blood supply. The participation of blood donors is essential to the work that SANBS does year-round to save lives,” Sifso Khoza, SANBS regional marketing manager.

The requirements to donate with SANBS are, you must be between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh a minimum of 50kgs and must be in good health.

If you consider your blood safe for transfusion then head over to your nearest donor centre and gift a stranger with a life-saving gift. The gift of blood is the gift of life.
