Upper Highway’s local angels are back at it again

Karyn and Rhett Smith, the Upper Highway's local angels, continue to spread their wings wide to help people from all walks of life in KwaZulu-Natal with food, clothing and other basic necessities.

THE Hillcrest residents aim to provide humanitarian aid to anyone who needs it following the heavy rain and devastating floods that occurred over the weekend.

The Smith’s, who provided food parcels, water, clothing and meals throughout KwaZulu-Natal, during the April floods, were motivated to assist in every way that they could during this disaster.

“I shared a post from ‘Rebuild KZN’ on Facebook that appealed to the community to provide food for rescuers who worked throughout the weekend, and just like last month, I asked if anyone would like to make a donation or assist me in any way. The response was overwhelming,” Karyn said.

With the help of friends and family, yesterday, the couple were able to provide 100 burgers, pizza’s and bottles of water to Search and Rescue team’s and will make another 100 food parcels for distribution to Search and Rescue today.

They also packaged and distributed 15 food hampers over the weekend and were motivated to start a basic-essentials drive.

“Thanks to various donations, we were able to collect 100 packs of sanitary pads and bars of soap for distribution, and a friend of mine offered to sew 100 face towels which we will be adding to our hampers. These hampers will be distributed to various humanitarian aid centres as well as to anyone who requests them.”

As a humble Karyn said during the April floods, she will assist for as long as she is able to do so.

“I will continue to assist for as long as I am able to do so. I encourage people to make donations as every donation goes a long way.”

If you would like to make any form of donation, kindly contact Karyn Smith on 082 828 2223.
