Empowering women with knowledge

The Ikhwezi District of the United Methodist Church hosted a gala dinner recently to celebrate women.

THE Ikhwezi District of the United Methodist Church hosted a gala dinner recently to honour and celebrate women in the organisation.

The dinner was hosted in the Solomon Mahlangu Hall in New Germany where women from different backgrounds gathered to celebrate their diversity.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, the women’s chairperson, Zodwa Jozana, said the day was dedicated to empowering women with knowledge.

“It is important for women to be innovative in these economically trying times, and with today’s message, the aim is to help them recognise their skills and talents, which they can use to earn a living.

“The dinner was also served to give the ladies an opportunity to exercise those skills. They were hands-on in planning the event, like the décor and the food that was prepared. Some of them helped in planning the programme and the guest speaker,” she said.

The guest speaker of the night was Luleka Sotshangane who is a businesswoman. Sotsh’s message was to encourage women to focus on what they love to do.

“Our truest talents lie in what we truly love, and I believe that’s the start of a thriving business or career. When we do what we love, it doesn’t feel like a job or something you have to do because of money. We do not encourage them to get into something because everyone else is doing it. It is also important for them to not be afraid of trying out business ideas because there is much more learning in practice than in planning,” she said.

The day ended with laughter and celebration as the ladies shared a meal.
