Class of 2023 sits in for final NSC exam
KZN education minister visits two exam halls as the Class of 2023 writes the first paper in their final exams.
TODAY marks the first session of 282 morning sessions of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examination of 2023. The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal stated that they are combat-ready to administer for the 193 779 full-time and part-time candidates from today, October 30, to December 5.
With the morning session commencing at 09:00 and the first paper being English Home and First Additional Language, KZN Education MEC Mbali Fraser will be visiting two examination halls in the province.

“Much as we started this academic year in a celebratory mood, we understood that as a province, we needed to work twice as hard to surpass our own success. We knew that we needed to compete with ourselves, to outdo ourselves and do better than we did in 2022.
“As is the case at the beginning of each academic year, in order to ensure that the Class of 2023 is ready and sharpened for the end-of-the-year examinations, we started the year by developing the 2023 Provincial Academic Improvement Plan, with the objectives in the main to improve pass percentage from 83% to a maximum of 100% or a minimum of 85%,” stated Fraser.
The department reported that all 12 districts in the province developed their District Plans that were informed by the Provincial Academic Improvement Plan.

“As a province, we always say that our aim and target is to ensure that we pass all candidates who sit for the final examination, thereby obtaining 100% performance as a province. However, the reality is that there are other factors that sometimes make it difficult to pass all our learners in the system, so we say, if we do not attain 100%, we need to ensure that we do not obtain less than 85%, which will still be a great,” said the department.
Given all that has been done throughout the year, the Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal said they are confident that the Class of 2023 is ready for the National Senior Certificate Examinations.
