The event was hosted by the Bellair SAPS as well as the Bellair Community Police Forum (CPF).

The aim of the event is to bring various industry stakeholders together as a show of united force in the fight against crime and to provide the local community the opportunity to engage with law enforcement and leaders in the community.

According to Bellair SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Pam Pillay, the day was about bringing the community together.

“This event was made successful by the various government departments, neighbouring CPFs, the Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) as well as residents of the neighbouring policing precincts. The feedback from the community was incredibly positive, and they enjoyed various demonstrations and simulations from all the stakeholders involved. Part of the exercises on the day also involved simulated hijackings and entrapment and extraction demonstrations by the Fire Department. There was also a display from the SAPS Explosives Unit and entertainment by the SAPS Marching Band,” she said.

Pillay added that there were also a few dance groups who performed at the event with the Metro Mounted Unit, security company K9 units and a petting zoo from The Menagerie.

“I think a big part of the success was the involvement of the youth and the fact that many of the attendees were able to interact with law enforcement to find out about their roles. Overall, we feel the event achieved its goal of bringing the community together,” she said.
