Organisations partner up to motivate the community to recycle

Local recycling organisations join efforts to encourage recycling in Hillcrest community.

THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) joined forces with Mpact Recycling to celebrate and promote recycling. Bonded by their common goal, the two local organisations partnered to celebrate the work they have done together and individually in the Highway area.

Nolita Ngcaba from Mpact said they were pleasantly surprised by the community’s eagerness to learn.
“The purpose of this event was to promote recycling, reduce waste, and raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. Mpact Recycling sponsored 2 000 pamphlets to promote the event and encourage a culture of recycling within the Hillcrest community.

“The event was a success with a remarkable turnout from the Hillcrest community. People of all ages, from children to adults, actively participated in the recycling of various materials, including mixed paper, white paper, cardboard and glass,” she explained.

Ngcaba further explained their partnership with the KHBA.
“Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association is part of the Ronnie Recycler programme which facilitates recycling at schools and community sites. The Ronnie Recycler programme affords schools and communities the opportunity to raise funds – as they are paid for their recyclables – while teaching environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability,” she said.

Ngcaba praised their partnership with the association, saying the partnership is valuable as it spotlights the importance of recycling and provides a site for the surrounding community to deposit their recyclables.

Marge Mitchell of KHBA encouraged the community and businesses to play their part in saving the environment by dropping off all their unwanted paper, cardboard and glass at the site for recycling. “We need your contribution to help increase the recycling volumes on a continual basis, as a fundraiser,” said Mitchell.
