Serious crash on N3 near Shongweni claims a life

A male driver, who was severely entrapped in the wreckage, was declared deceased at the accident scene on the N3 Durban-bound near Shongweni.

ONE person died in a serious collision between two trucks on the N3 Durban-bound near Shongweni this morning. 

Paramedics reported that they responded to the accident around 04:30.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find that two trucks had collided in a rear-end format, leaving the one driver severely entrapped in the wreckage. Paramedics from EMRS and ALS Paramedics assessed the male driver of approximately forty years old, however, he had sustained major injuries and was declared deceased on the scene,” said ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson. 

Jamieson said it is alleged that the one truck was broken down when the second truck went into the rear of it, however, SAPS were at the scene and will be investigating further.

The Durban Fire Department were at the scene and used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the man free.
