Pinetown Police uncover house used to manufacture counterfeit hair products

The house was the residence of a foreign-national Umbilo pastor, and the products were sold all over KZN and even in the Eastern Cape.

FOUR people will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today (November 27) after the Pinetown SAPS uncovered a house in Somerset Place, Farningham Ridge, used to manufacture counterfeit hair products on Tuesday afternoon.

According to KwaZulu-Natal SAPS, the discovery followed an investigation into a stolen flow bin reported in Westmead on Sunday (November 24).

“During the search, police found that the house was being used to manufacture various hair products. Initial investigations revealed that the barcodes on the products corresponded to a different product from a North American country. Two undocumented foreign nationals were found hiding in the ceiling and were arrested.

“Two women, one of them a foreign national, were also arrested,” said KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

Netshiunda further stated that the house is owned by a foreign national, a known pastor with a church in Umbilo. His vehicle, branded with photographs of himself and his wife, as well as images of various hair product brands, was found parked in the yard.

“Police also found invoices indicating that the hair products had been sold to renowned wholesalers, retail stores and hair salons, mostly in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape province,” Netshiunda added.

Further investigations are underway.
