Hillcrest green organisation restores cycling track

The Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association is happy bring back the cycling trail to local cyclists.

THE Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association (KHBA) has restored the cycling track from Stonewall Road to Ashley Drive in Gillitts along the historic railway line after recent heavy rainfall had left the trail overgrown and impassable.

KHBA employees, Thokozane and Vusi, used brush cutters to clear the way for cyclists. “We were pleased that we could help,” said Wendy Brown of KHBA.
The restored cycle track offers a unique opportunity for families, dog owners, and cyclists to explore the area’s natural beauty and rich history. The track passes by the old stone wall, a remnant of one of the original farms in the area.

As a non-profit organisation, KHBA relies heavily on the support of volunteers and donations from the community. The recent clearing of the cycle track was made possible at a minimal cost, thanks to the organisation’s efficient use of resources.

KHBA is committed to beautifying the Hillcrest area, particularly in the CBD, through the creation of indigenous gardens. The organisation also runs a recycling center in Delamore Road, Hillcrest, where residents can drop off their recyclable waste. The recycling depot accepts empty bottles and tin cans, which are then processed into new products.

By supporting KHBA’s initiatives, residents can contribute to the betterment of their community. Those interested in donating or volunteering can contact Marge Mitchell on 083 419 3807. KHBA extends its gratitude to its regular supporters and encourages others to join in the effort to keep Hillcrest beautiful.
