SAPS drive GBV awareness
Malvern SAPS go above and beyond the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
DESPITE the end of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign, Malvern SAPS said it would continue its fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

Social Crime Prevention officer at the Malvern police station, Sergeant Sthembile Kheswa, said they had embarked on the campaign with Arul Gnana from the Iyakkam AGI Women’s Group.
“We had a group of around 20 ladies who were present for one of the programmes. Pamphlets were distributed to the community and it was well-received. The 16 Days campagin is an annual initiative that runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day).

“It was also a way for us to bring awareness to some community members about what domestic violence is. I take an initiative to educate them and understand more steps that need to be taken. We also want victims and survivors to know that they have the support of the SAPS to get further assistance on a healing process, as well as counselling needed to overcome their trauma,” she said.
