KwaNgcolosi Clinic gets mobile units amidst snake infestation

A snake infestation caused the closure of KwaNgcolosi Clinic since March 3.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has confirmed that the KwaNgcolosi Clinic, near Hillcrest, remains operational despite a snake infestation that caused a temporary closure of the building and restricted access to the pharmacy. To ensure continued healthcare services, the department has deployed three mobile units on the clinic premises.

This follows the recent removal of a black mamba by a snake catcher. The area has a history of snake infestations, with recent sightings reported in the ceiling and filing areas.
Department spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa confirmed that the clinic has been closed since March 3, but assured that primary healthcare services continue through mobile units.
“The clinic management has ensured a continuous supply of medication through KwaDabeka CHC, as access to the clinic’s pharmacy is currently not possible,” he said.

Maphisa added that the department is actively working on a permanent solution to eliminate the snake problem and ensure the safety of both staff and patients.
“As part of these efforts, the department will also procure park homes to serve as temporary healthcare facilities while work on the original structure is carried out,” he said.
