Driven to help those in need

El Gibbor kitchen appeals for support to replace ageing vehicle.

WITH the winter season approaching, Pinetown’s El Gibbor Kitchen is calling for more hands on deck as they continue to feed homeless people with warm hearty meals. Apart from meals, the organisation also collects donations such as used clothes and blankets.

After six years of their volunteer work, the organisation is embarking on a fundraising campaign to purchase a new vehicle that will allow them to continue their work of feeding and assisting those in need.

Founder Stephanie Amod said they have relied on their personal vehicle for the transportation of meals for their weekly street feeding on Josiah Gumede Road.
“However, the car has now deteriorated significantly, making it difficult to meet the growing demands of our programmes.
“It has become really troublesome, and we are struggling to keep it going. We have spent over R7000 last month trying to fix it. We urgently need another vehicle so we can continue helping others,” she said.

To address the issue, El Gibbor Kitchen has launched a BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign to raise funds throughout the year or until their target is met. Currently sitting on R10 000, Amod said they are grateful for the donations that have come through.
“Every bit helps, and no donation is too small. We also encourage those who can’t contribute financially to support us by spreading the word. It takes a community to make a difference,” said Amod.
