In an act of protection, the male pitbull shielded Bella from the worst of the collapse, lying on top of her until help arrived. He escaped unharmed.
Emergency teams from START Rescue, the Fire Department, and Marshall Security’s Community Support Unit freed both dogs from the debris. Bella was transported to the Westville Veterinary Hospital, where she remained overnight. Vets confirmed that she will require surgery for the fracture.
A public appeal has been made for assistance in covering Bella’s veterinary costs.
