Behind the shimmer: Durban Fashion Fair 2025 through Thuli’s lens

From runway drama to backstage magic, one photographer captured it all. Step into Durban Fashion Fair through the lens of Thuligraphy Images.

WHEN Durban turned into a runway of dreams last week, Thuli Dlamini, the creative force behind Thuligraphy Images, was there to capture every moment. From the shimmer of sequins to the quiet intensity backstage, her lens told the story of the 14th annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) like no one else could.

Held from September 17 to 19 at the Durban Exhibition Centre, DFF drew fashionistas, designers, models, and photographers for a three-day celebration of style, innovation, and South African flair. This year’s theme, “The Awakening,” saw over 60 designers bring their visions to life, showcasing everything from elegant evening wear to edgy streetwear and bold contemporary pieces.

While runway shows dazzled and fashion stalls buzzed with textures and accessories, Thuli moved through it all, capturing not just the fashion, but the feeling. Her work reflects the energy of the event: the empowerment of emerging designers, the excitement of live music, and the conversations sparked in workshops on sustainability and entrepreneurship.

Organisers called DFF 2025 a celebration of creativity and diversity. But through Thuli’s lens, it became something more, a visual archive of Durban’s fashion heartbeat.
