Suspected Pinetown kidnappers abandon bail

The prosecutor said investigations are ongoing, which include obtaining tracker reports of vehicles suspected to have been used in the crimes.

THE kidnapping case involving two Pinetown Boys’ High School learners returned to the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, July 1, where proceedings were postponed to August 18 to allow investigators more time to finalise outstanding evidence.

The two accused, who were arrested in May, are facing a total of 12 charges linked to the alleged kidnapping of the two learners. The charges include kidnapping, extortion, attempted extortion, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

According to the prosecutor, the State is still waiting to obtain one outstanding Section 205 statement, a legal process used to obtain information that may assist criminal investigations. The State is also awaiting tracker reports, which are expected to provide further evidence and assist investigators.

During the proceedings, neither of the accused brought a formal bail application before the court.

Instead, they assured the court that they would first consult with their legal representative before deciding whether they intend to apply for bail at a later stage.

As a result, both accused remain in custody while the investigation continues.
