Horrific Westmead accident leaves two dead

Fifteen people were also injured when the two taxis collided.

TWO people were killed while 15 others sustained injuries, ranging from minor to critical, after two taxis collided in a T-format at the corner of Goodwood and Leeukop roads this morning, Wednesday, April 19.

Garrith Jamiesion, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said paramedics received numerous calls just before 06:45 to come and assist at a multiple-casualty accident.

“On arrival, paramedics found total chaos and called for more assistance as there were multiple casualties.

“One person, a woman, was flown out of the vehicle and sustained major injuries and, unfortunately, died on scene,” said Jamieson.

While paramedics were stabilising multiple critically injured patients, Jamieson reported that a man believed to be in his 40s went into cardiac arrest and despite resuscitation efforts, he, too, passed away on scene.

“Approximately 15 people, with injuries ranging from minor to serious, were stabilised on scene before being transported to various hospitals,” said Jamieson.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
