HILLCREST Primary School set itself the mammoth collection target of 1 000 books for the Hammarsdale Cato Ridge Development Association (HCRDA) Book Drive.

They have far exceeded their target of collecting almost 2 000 books.

The HCRDA is made up of 67 companies that operate in the Outer West. Formed in 2021, it aims to make the region a better place to invest, work and live in, thereby supporting growth, employment and transformation.

The association has an initiative called the Hammarsdale Cato Ridge Development Trust, a vehicle through which it conducts charitable activities.

Joshlean Chettiar, HCRDA project manager, said their goal is to provide young adult books in English and IsiZulu for 5 000 children.

“We would like to convey a big thank you to Vanessa Rix for driving this initiative and all the staff, learners and parents for their donations. We encourage more schools, businesses and restaurants to join the initiative so we can reach our goal of 5 000 children and young adults’ books. These will all be donated to less privileged children in the Outer West of Durban as part of the HCRDA’s book drive,” she said.
