Learner steps up to international competition

Pinetown Boys' Lindokuhle Ndlovu will be among dancers that will represent South Africa in the United Kingdom.

A PINETOWN Boys’ High School learner will be among dancers from around South Africa who will represent the country in the United Kingdom in August.

Lindokuhle Ndlovu (17) said he started dancing at the age of 11 for the Dance Sport School League (DSSL).

The Grade Eleven learner’s face beams with pride when he speaks about his passion as he said he enjoys dancing. “I believe dancing has always been a part of me.”

Growing up, Lindokuhle said he would watch and expose himself to dance shows and programmes such as World of Dance, Street Dance, and Step Up, with Step Up being the most notable and one that inspired him a lot because of his love for hip-hop.

Being a diverse dancer, he is also a fan of the local music genre and dance style called Amapiano. “I always practise any dance genre that constructively builds my craft.”

For Lindokuhle, dancing is not just a movement of the body but a way of expressing himself. “Through certain movements and gestures, I can express my emotions and any message I want to portray,” he said.

The talented learner said he wishes to use his talent to pursue a career in dance.

“I want to study dancing and make an impact overseas. I want to become a household name in the dancing field.”

He added that this competition will not be a walk in the park as there are various paces contestants are put through: solo dancing, some unprepared tests and challenges where you have to come up with a creative dance on the spot, and a lot more.

Being raised by a mother who is a correctional service officer, Lindokuhle said he believes that she plays a huge role in the focused and disciplined individual that he is.

The school’s Menzi Gumede said they are very proud of Lindokuhle’s achievement. “He is a fine young gentlemen who is a testament to what the school stands for,” he said.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
