Martial arts champs wow at tournament

Bushido Martial Arts Dojo's athletes returned with 28 medals at the recent Full Contact Martial Arts National Championships.

TUDENTS from Bushido Martial Arts Dojo based in Westville represented KwaZulu-Natal at the recent Full Contact Martial Arts (FCMA) National Championships. The tournament was held at the Kempton Park indoor sports centre.

At this event, athletes had the opportunity to participate in seven different categories: Traditional Sparring, Hard Forms, Kobudo, Creative Forms, Points and Continuous Sparring (Kickboxing).

The KZN team was represented by 12 athletes from Bushido Martial Arts Dojo. These athletes brought back 28 medals: six gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals. The entire KZN team, compromised of of 53 participants, brought home a total medal tally of 146 medals.

Shihan Brian Govender, head coach for the KZN team and senior instructor of Bushido Martial Arts Dojo, said that he was pleased with the overall performance of the KZN team and especially proud of his 12 students who represented his dojo. “I would like to congratulate the entire KZN team on a job well done.”
