Louis Botha triumphs at 25th annual Kloof High School tourney

The Kloof High School football tournament has been running for 25 years, and this year's edition was one of the school’s finest yet.

WHAT started in 2001 as a passionate vision by the school’s deputy principal, Anil Dukhi, and Dean Moodley, was celebrated as a historic milestone this past weekend.

The Kloof High School National Football Tournament has officially been running for 25 years, and this year’s silver jubilee edition proved to be one of the school’s finest yet.

Hosted over four action-packed days from June 26 to 29, the tournament brought together 32 elite schools from across SA to compete for the title.

“We would like to extend a warm thank you to all the participating schools who traveled from near and far to be part of this milestone year, which are Virginia, Northwood, Ashton, Hillcrest, Nqabakazulu, Toti, Sarel Cilliers, Brettonwood, New Forest, DNC, Nilgiri, St Nicholas, Paul Roos, Kloof High School, The Glen High, Crawford La Lucia, Westville, Alexander, Thomas More, Vuyiswa Mtolo, Woodlands, Maritzburg, Reddam, TUKS, DHS, St Francis, Bechet, Louis Botha, Kearsney, Birdswood, and Howick,” said the school.

The final game between DHS and Louis Botha was a thriller that went down to the wire.

With nothing separating the sides in regular time, it went to a tense penalty shoot-out.

HTS Louis Botha held their nerve to win it 5-4, walking away as this year’s champions.

“A massive congratulations and thank you goes out to Mr. Quinn Jones, our MIC for soccer at Kloof High School, as well as Mr. Grant Mamott and Mr. Blair Thompson for organising and running such a wonderful tournament.

“An event of this scale is not possible without the incredible backing of our partners. We want to say a huge thank you to all our sponsors for their generous support: Travel and Sport, Hyundai Hillcrest, ProNutrition, JAM Clothing, Adidas, and Aquelle.”
