Eight top tennis schools to compete in Kearsney’s festival

South Africa's three top-seeded schools, Paul Roos Gimnasium (Stellenbosch), Grey College (Bloemfontein) and Westville Boys' High, will be joined by Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies, in Pretoria), Pretoria Boys High, Rondebosch Boys (Cape Town), St David's Marist Inanda (Johannesburg) and hosts Kearsney.

KEARSNEY College will host the country’s top tennis schools at its annual three-day invitation tournament next weekend (May 3–5).

The 28th Kearsney Tennis Tournament sees eight highly competitive tennis schools participating in what has become a highlight on the schools’ tennis calendar, with an exciting and high standard of tennis always evident from the country’s top junior players.

South Africa’s three top-seeded schools, Paul Roos Gimnasium (Stellenbosch), Grey College (Bloemfontein) and Westville Boys’ High, will be joined by Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies, in Pretoria), Pretoria Boys High, Rondebosch Boys (Cape Town), St David’s Marist Inanda (Johannesburg) and hosts Kearsney.

Kearsney’s first team will be captained by Keegan Gevers and include Jason Denekamp, Angus Fyvie, Finn Coningham, Max East, Luke Trevelean and Chris Hawkey.

This prestigious tournament was started in 1996 by Kearsney’s MIC of tennis, Ant Willows, to showcase the strength of tennis among aspiring youngsters from schools across the country.

He has also organised numerous international tennis tours and initiated the building of Kearsney’s tennis pavilion.

His passion for tennis always evident, having played provincial and SA Veterans tennis himself, he has organised all 28 of Kearsney’s annual tennis tournaments.

He said Kearsney was grateful to Sportsmans Warehouse and Wilson, which continued to provide generous support for this tournament.

Schools play five matches with each consisting of six singles and three doubles matches, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday.
These round-robin matches will yield a semi-final, final, play-off matches and an eventual winner.
