Support Kloof and Highway SPCA Dog Box Challenge

The Kloof and Highway SPCA has appealed for the public to support the annual fundraiser to help the organisation's ongoing fight against cruelty to animals.

IT is that time of year when The Kloof & Highway SPCA gets to hold their annual Dog Box Challenge!

This year is extra special as they are celebrating the 10th anniversary of this fundraiser.

Kloof & Highway SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson said that when they organised the very first Dog Box Challenge, they had the aim of 24 people spending 24 hours overnight in their half-built socialisation kennels, striving to raise enough money to complete the building and accommodate more animals in need.

Over the past decade, Ferguson said this fundraiser has grown exponentially and become an annual event that is loved and supported by many.

According to the SPCA, this challenge has assisted the Kloof & Highway SPCA in caring for more than 10 000 animals admitted into their kennels and helped sterilise and treat thousands more.

“The funding we have received over the years has helped us attend court hearings, prosecute cases of animal cruelty and ensure justice is served.

“It has helped us hold sterilisation clinics in the most rural areas where we have had the opportunity to reach the unreachable and spread the word that we care, we are here to help animals and we will not stand by while an animal suffers.”

The Kloof & Highway SPCA will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a Carnival Extravaganza! This is a special year for the SPCA as it is also the Dog Walking Team’s 10th anniversary.

“The volunteers have been walking dogs and making a difference to so many lives. They are vital to us in so many ways – our dog-walking team walks dogs so they get that one-on-one time they may never have had in their lives. They make their stay at the Kloof & Highway SPCA that much more special and always love them and our SPCA unconditionally.”

Ferguson invited the public to visit the SPCA on Friday, May 24, when the contestants start their lock-up, to when they are released on May 25 at 12:00.

“On Friday evening, there will be entertainment and music, food and drink vendors. We would love to see you all there, so please, come and show you care by supporting our SPCA heroes and beloved PAW-ticipants!
