‘Operation Clean-Up’ ignites community spirit

Various organisations and residents, who have joined hands to help restore Mariannridge, appeal for help in making the area safe for everyone again, especially the children.

IN an effort to reclaim Mariannridge, a fun day was hosted at the local park to raise funds.

The day was made possible by a former resident and current business owner in the community of Mariannridge, Aaisha Abrahams, who, with her organisation, has partnered with various stakeholders and community members to reclaim their community from the many social ills that have harmed their community at large.

The campaign was called ‘Operation Clean-Up’ and was supported by various sponsors and the community.

“The day was spent with Dr Kapil Maharaj who gave free consultations and medication to the pensioners. The children had a field day playing mini-soccer matches and had their faces painted.

“The guests indulged in a delicious breyani with children and pensioners getting party packs,” said Abrahams.

She said the hope of the campaign is to continue the mission to return Mariannridge to its former glory while spreading love and light among the community.

Abrahams said she feels as if they have been forgotten for a long time and hopes that this initiative reaches the right people who will come forward and join them in rebuilding their community and making it safe again for the children.

“Our appeal is to have a fence put up at the park and speed humps, as well as a pedestrian crossing sign, as this is the main concern now that the park is open,” said Abrahams.
