Take note of the #Comrades2024 road closures

This year's marathon will take place on Sunday, June 9, and is an Up Run.

WITH just a few days to Comrades race day, eThekwini Municipality has urged motorists to exercise caution and plan routes in advance, taking note of possible traffic delays.

This year’s Up Run will start in Durban and finish in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, June 9.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that the following road closures and alert notifications which will be effective over Comrades race weekend, starting around 16:00 on Saturday, June 8, until 18:30 on Sunday, June 9.

CMA race and operations manager Ann Ashworth said runners staying outside the Durban Metro are advised to leave earlier than usual as they make their way to the start at the Durban City Hall… “…Perhaps an hour earlier than they would normally do as the ongoing roadworks and increased volume of traffic will definitely lead to congestion and a longer travelling time,” he said.

Comrades supporters are advised to please make use of the more accessible spectator points located in Hillcrest, the Alverstone area (at the intersection of the R103 and Alverstone Road), Drummond, the Hammarsdale area (at the intersection of the R103 and Thousand Hills Drive), Camperdown, Lynnfield Park and Ashburton.
