Substation failure causes power outage

The City has assured residents in Pinetown, New Germany and Clermont that they are working on restoring power supply following a switchgear failure at Pineside Station.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has issued a statement informing New Germany, parts of Pinetown and Clermont residents that their teams are working to restore power supply.

The two areas were left in the dark just after midnight.

According to the municipality, the total loss of electricity was caused by the public Pineside Substation which has suffered an 11 kV switchgear failure.

“Teams are on-site working diligently to restore supply.

“The City will keep the public informed with relevant updates during the course of the day,” read the statement.
