Sister Helena works with more than 40 boys at the Old Mill in Mariannhill and other centres. She has, with the assistance of 26 staff members, physically and emotionally cared for many generations of boys, endeavouring to rescue them from the streets and re-integrate them with their families and society.

“Even through difficult financial times when staff were not paid to times when generous donations allowed Streetwise to prosper and grow, as an NPO, Streetwise needs the support of the public in order to survive as government funding is limited,” said Rotarian Sue Kilkie.

In response to the award, Sister Helena expressed her gratitude to everyone who has supported Streetwise and said they want children to be able to be children so that they can be better adults.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
