Get set for incredible milestone
Join Parkrun South Africa as it celebrates its one-millionth unique participant. Everyone is welcome to participate for free by walking, jogging, running and volunteering.
ON Saturday, November 16, parkrun South Africa is due to reach an incredible milestone – they will have the one-millionth (different) person to volunteer or complete a parkrun.
In the Upper Highway area, the public can join the participants at Shongweni parkrun, located at the Shongweni Polo Pony Club, which is one of the 220 parkruns currently operating in South Africa that has contributed to this landmark.
Event ambassador for KZN Inland, Jason Huntley, said that more than 15 093 people have taken part over the 11 years that Shongweni parkrun has been in existence.
He said the parkrun starts at 08:00 every Saturday, and people of all abilities and backgrounds are able to participate for free by walking, jogging, running and volunteering.

“We are delighted to have played a small part in contributing to this milestone. It’s such a big number, but parkrun is also about the small things that we see every week – the smiles, the friendships and the friendly and welcoming community that we have created. And, of course, a big thank you to all our fantastic volunteers who make it all possible each week.
“We look forward to welcoming many more new – and previously active – parkrunners at our parkruns.”
He urged people to come and join them this Saturday morning.
“It’s free, it’s friendly and it doesn’t matter how fast you are. You can walk, jog, run or come and help out as a volunteer. We hope to see you soon!
