AMERICAN guitarist and singer-songwriter Ryan Roxie will be one of the headline acts at Hillfest, which is happening at the Shongweni Club on Saturday, November 22, and Sunday, November 23.

Supported by 1000 Hills Tourism, the event is inspired by the notion of bargain hunting on Black Friday. This is the brainchild of event promotor and/or musician Clyde Lawrence who has created a single destination, weekend-long retail and entertainment extravaganza ahead of the global shopping and saving phenomenon.

This is the first time that such a festival of its kind is in the area, with various early Black Friday specials in a family-friendly context.

Two huge marquees will house a selection of vendors, micro-entrepreneurs, services on offer and retail exhibits. This is complemented by a mini-motor show where car collectors’ finests will be on display. There will be food and beverage stalls offering a variety of market-fare options and a fully licensed bar. There is also an arts and crafts tent showcasing artists, photographers and craft-makers from the region.

Seventeen animal charities have been offered info stands representing a host of rescue, rehabilitation and animal support NGOs.

There will be great live music over the weekend. The opening of Hillfest sees Ard Matthews and Just Jinger perform live on Friday evening.

For Saturday, Lawrence will perform, featuring the Hillcrest band, Fugly and Friends. Starting at 17:30, the Nu Savoys will be playing some laid-back jazz and popular standards for an hour, followed by Fugly and Friends who will also play for an hour.

Gates open on Friday at 18:00, Saturday from 09:00 until 17:00, and Sunday from 09:00 until 16:00. Adults cost R30 to enter, kids from 12–18 years old are R15, and Under 12s are free.
