Birthday buddies compassion makes a difference

Bashie Visser teamed up with two of his classmates at Deutsche Schule Durban to use their birthday celebrations to raise funds for the animals.

EARLIER last month, one of Deutsche Schule Durban’s learners, Bashie Visser, celebrated his birthday in a unique and heartwarming way.

He teamed up with two of his classmates – whose names also start with ‘B’ – to host a joint birthday celebration on the school’s sports field. The event was filled with fun and purpose as Bashie used the occasion to make a meaningful impact on the community.

“Thanks to the generosity of guests and supporters, Bashie was able to donate a significant amount of food to Feeding the Furballs, contribute to Nick Evans’ wildlife conservation efforts, and provide baby milk for Monkey Helpline,” said Ellen Botha from the school.

“This celebration exemplifies the values we hold dear at Deutsche Schule Durban in Cowies Hill: community, compassion and a drive to give back. And remember, you don’t need to be German or even speak German to join our school – anyone can learn German and gain an invaluable skill that opens doors to global opportunities,” she said.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
