Surprise! Man gets an unexpected cobra visitor at his home office
The homeowner who quickly trapped the snake in the bathroom after it fell from a book shelf in his home office was hopeful that it was just a big brown house snake.

A QUICK-THINKING Westville resident avoided a spit from a Mozambique spitting cobra as he closed the bathroom door to trap it before calling snake catcher, Nick Evans.
According to Evans, he received a call from his friend on Friday.
“He informed me that he was working in his home office when he heard something fall next to him. He noticed a dark-coloured snake, about a meter in length, which had been on a book shelf, and went tumbling down. From there, it went into the bathroom, where he closed the door to trap it,” said Evans.

The two were hoping that the snake was a big brown house snake, but it was not.
Evans said he slowly opened the door and immediately heard the sound of a larger snake moving – either a cobra or mamba.
“I looked in the open bathroom cabinet, and there it was, the snake I was hoping it wouldn’t be – a Mozambique spitting cobra. It didn’t hesitate in spitting at me, but fortunately just my arm got a spray.
Wasting no time, Evans grabbed it with the tongs, and directed it into a capture tube.
“It didn’t go in immediately, but soon did, thankfully. Throughout the whole ordeal, my friend was totally relaxed. He understands snakes and their behaviour of wanting to get away from people.”
