10 men rob a liquor store in New Germany

The men who arrived in two vehicles allegedly took cases of whisky and cash before hijacking a vehicle during their getaway in Posselt Road.

PINETOWN SAPS are investigating cases of business robbery and hijacking after 10 armed men stormed a liquor store in Posselt Road, New Germany, on Monday afternoon.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Jennifer Naidu, said the complainant reported that he was alone in the store when he was approached by 10 unknown men.

“He said all 10 men were armed with firearms. They threatened the complainant and forced him to lie on the floor. It is alleged that the suspects took several cases of whisky and about R2000 cash.”

Naidu said it is alleged that four of the 10 suspects then robbed the owner of a company next to the liquor store.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the man was reversing out of the complex when he was forced out of the motor vehicle. Suspects then drove off with the vehicle.”

According to Naidu, the suspects arrived in a white Polo and a white Renault Triber without registration plates.

“As the suspects were driving off, they fired two shots. No injuries were sustained.”
