Police suspect he is behind the killing of his 22-year-old girlfriend and her 52-year-old mother, who were gunned down at their home on Income Road in Nazareth, Pinetown on March 18.

“We are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that can lead to his arrest. He has been on the run for too long,” said KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

According to the police, Hlongwa was arrested on July 20, 2020 after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition on Ukuthula Street in St Wendolins, Mariannhill. He was released pending the outcome of ballistic tests but has since failed to appear in court.

Authorities say Hlongwa is also linked to a series of extortion cases, allegedly targeting businesspeople in and around Mariannhill. His name was officially circulated as wanted in September 2024, and a warrant of arrest was issued by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on September 9, 2024.
