Truck driver extracted from wreckage

Rescue officials cut the driver free from the truck wreckage after it veered off the N3 and climbed up an embankment before rolling over this morning.

A TRUCK driver was extracted from a vehicle wreckage up an embankment off the N3 just before the Mariannhill Toll Plaza on Wednesday morning.

At around 08:30, ALS Paramedics who responded to the accident found a truck which had veered off from the busy N3 highway, gone up the embankment and overturned, trapping the driver in the wreckage.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said multiple rescue units, including the eThekwini Fire Department, SAPS Search and Rescue and Redline Response Rescue, were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Whilst Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the injured man in the cab the rescue officials cut the man free. Once extricated the man was loaded into an awaiting ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required. At this stage the events leading up to the crash are unknown, however, SAPS and RTI were in attendance and will be investigating further,”  said Jamieson.
