Delivery vehicle driver dies in Upper Highway head-on collision

A woman in her 30s who sustained critical injuries was airlifted to hospital.

A MAN in his 40s was killed on Tuesday morning in a head-on collision on Inanda Road towards Molweni just outside Waterfall, while a woman was airlifted to hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency personnel responded to a serious collision just before 07:30.

“Paramedics found a fully laden taxi had collided head-on with a light delivery vehicle. Multiple casualties were found and immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support paramedics were dispatched together with the eThekwini Fire Department,” he said.

“Unfortunately the driver of the light delivery vehicle sustained fatal injuries and he was declared deceased on the scene.

“One of the critically injured casualties, a female believed to be in her 30s, was placed on a manual ventilator before she was flown to a specialist hospital in Durban by the Air Mercy Aeromedical Helicopter.”

 

A helicopter transported the critically injured woman to hospital.

Sixteen patients with injuries ranging from moderate to critical were treated on scene and transported to various hospitals.

SAPS members who were on scene will investigate the cause of the accident.
