Hillary street light pole fixed, three years later

After almost three years of reporting that a street light pole had fallen during strong winds in 2022, a resident is happy that it has been repaired and they now have light.

AND there was light! A Hillary resident who has waited for a street light pole to be repaired for almost three years is happy that it has finally been fixed.

The pole, marked number 16 in Valerie Road, fell in 2022 during strong winds.

“The pole lay here cut in pieces and it posed danger to pedestrians and school children who walk to and from school as there were sparks coming out of the cables, especially when it rained,” said long-standing Hillary resident Johan Nel.

He said the darkness also invited criminals to the area.

“Now we can see who walks past; criminals used to hide here but now we have light at our intersection.”

Despite the light being on for 24 hours, Nel said he was pleased that the issue has been sorted.

“The permanent light does not really bother me much. I am grateful that the pole was fixed. As we approach the winter season, it is starting to get dark quickly,” he said.

Nel thanked the Queensburgh News for publishing stories about the pole.

“If it was not for the publication, we would still be sitting in the dark,” said the grateful resident.
