Police rearrest rape suspect who escaped from custody

A rape suspect who was on the run after being arrested on Monday was rearrested today.

A rape suspect who escaped from police custody was on Thursday morning (May 22) rearrested in Umbilo.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police in Mariannhill rearrested the 28-year-old rape suspect who escaped from police custody in Mariannhill on Monday.

Netshiunda said the suspect had been arrested earlier on Monday.

“Police’s relentless search for the suspect located him at a hostel in Umbilo on Thursday morning. The suspect will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of escaping from lawful custody. He will then be transferred to Ekhombe where he will face several cases of rape in which he allegedly targeted learners who reside at cottages of a school in Nkandla,” said Netshiunda.
