Cops welcome new CCTV camera for New Germany
The police say the CCTV camera, which was recently installed through the work of a local neighbourhood watch supported by a security company, will help to deter potential criminals from committing crimes.
THE Pinetown SAPS have welcomed the installation of a new AI-powered CCTV camera on High Street Circle in New Germany as a measure to bolster crime-fighting efforts.
The communications officer at Pinetown SAPS Jennifer Naidu said the CCTV camera will help to deter potential criminals from committing crimes and enhance police efforts in the fight against crime in the area.
“We believe that collaboration with external roleplayers, such as neighbourhood watches and security companies, is crucial in the fight against crime. The presence of CCTV cameras will undoubtedly make would-be offenders think twice before committing a crime. We’re committed to working together with various stakeholders to ensure a safer community,” said Naidu.
The installation of the new AI-powered CCTV camera has been viewed as local residents taking action, with the local neighbourhood watch, supported by Blue Security, launching the first AI-powered community CCTV camera, which is now live at High Street Circle.

Blue Security community manager for New Germany, Brett Beket, said: “The power of collective support illustrates what can happen when communities come together. For every 25 homes that sign up for our monitoring service, we will install another fully monitored camera site. The more homes that join, the more eyes we have on the streets.”
Beket said the system uses AI to detect real threats, filtering out false alarms and alerts go straight to Blue Security’s Community Command Centre, which has armed response officers on standby.
“The camera at High Street Circle is already making a difference, backed by regular updates, increased visibility, and close collaboration with the local neighbourhood watch and Crime Prevention Unit,” said Beket.
Beket said continued community support will determine how far the project can go.
“This project proves what is possible when a community stands together. With more support, we can expand the network and take back our streets.”
