3.5m python found near M19
The snake was found on a small island of bush between the M19 and Otto Volek Road off-ramp - an unusual place for either species, but especially for a python.
SNAKE catcher Nick Evans said he is still baffled after rescuing a 3.5m python from a patch of bush near the M19 highway in New Germany.
Evans rescued the snake last week after being contacted by municipal staff.
“There are no pythons there, it must be a black mamba. Although, it would be a little unusual to be a mamba too, just more likely,” Evans initially thought.

“Although the area once had a python population, they were believed to have disappeared decades ago,” said the Highway snake catcher.
The beautiful big snake was found in the island between the off-ramp to Otto Volek Road and the M19.
“It’s built-up all around there, except for the small New Germany Nature Reserve. And the reserve isn’t known for its mambas.
When he arrived at the spot after following the municipality staff, Evans said he got out of his car, armed with his tongs and ready to catch the mamba.
“Then they pointed out the snake. ‘Bloody Hell!’ I was shocked, it was a python,” said Evans.
After a wrestling match and with some help from municipal worker Joseph, Evans caught the python.
“Thanks to the municipality for caring and calling!” he said.
