Content creator creates positive change

The Purposefully Influencing Awards were started by Highway resident Pearl Holdstock to celebrate individuals who are using social media with intention.

“To be a content creator, you don’t need much, just a camera, a vision, and a decision to start,” said Pinetown resident Pearl Holdstock, the founder of Purposefully Influencing Awards.

When she started this journey, Holdstock said she was inspired by the hard work that goes into content creation, “a space often overlooked or misunderstood, especially by those outside the industry”.

“I entered this space with a deep desire to create positive change. One of the first things I noticed was the lack of equal opportunities for up-and-coming content creators compared to those who had already established themselves,” she said.

This gap pushed her to create something that could bridge it, a platform that acknowledges all voices, not just the loudest.

“The Purposefully Influencing Awards were born from this vision: to provide a space for both seasoned creators and those who are just getting started.”

The wife and mother of two said the name ‘Purposefully Influencing’ is intentional.

“It’s about more than just popularity or numbers, it’s about using your platform to make a real, positive impact. Influence is a form of leadership, and true leaders are those who serve others.”

Their mission is to celebrate individuals who are using social media with intention, people who understand the power they hold and choose to use it for good.

“Too often, young people are spending hours consuming content that doesn’t benefit them. We’re here to say: Use your platform purposefully. Wake up each day with the decision to live a purpose-driven life, even on social media.

“Creating meaningful content generally falls into three categories: entertainment (funny, engaging), educational (informational), and inspirational (uplifting, supportive).”

Born and bred in Hammarsdale, Holdstock explained that the platform is your own.

“Post what resonates with your voice, your audience, and your mission. But the most successful content? It’s relatable. People want to connect with the person behind the screen, whether they live in the suburbs or in rural areas,” she said.

One of the nominees is fashion model Elihle Shezi. The 12-year-old has over 120 000 followers on TikTok and Instagram.

There are 30 categories including: Best Blog, Funniest Content Creator, Most Inspirational Content Creator, and Best Social Entrepreneur.

The awards will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Umhlanga on Friday, November 14.

The founder of the awards said guests can expect a beautiful, inspiring event.

“We are planning to host 800 people right here in KwaZulu-Natal. We’re bringing content creators from Cape Town, Johannesburg, and beyond to experience the beauty of our province – from the culture to the food and, of course, the people.

“These awards are more than just a celebration, this event is a space of recognition and inclusion. We are building a table big enough for all of us.”

Asked what advice she would give to aspiring creators, Holdstock said: “Be authentic, stay true to yourself, have fun, don’t overthink it and just start creating.

“When you step into content creation, you become more than just a creator, you become an ambassador for your community, for your values, and for the causes you care about.”

She added that she uses her platform to advocate for men and women battling infertility, and multiracial couples navigating their journeys.

“Content creation has allowed me to stand for the things I believe in, and I hope it does the same for others.”

The awards also give back to the community. Last year the beneficiary was Philakade Care Home in KwaNyuswa.

“This year, we have chosen Robin Hood Foundation as our charity partner.”

Holdstock thanked all the sponsors and partners.

“A heartfelt thank you to all sponsors who continue to invest in the content creation space, especially those who have partnered with us for this event.”

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
