Iskcon celebrates 50th anniversary since leader landed in SA

The celebrations will be on Saturday at the Pinetown Civic Hall at 17:00.

THE enthusiastic learners of New Germany Primary School are expected to dazzle the audience with spectacular performances at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness’ (Iskcon) Krishna Janmastami celebrations on Saturday at the Pinetown Civic Hall (17:00).

Preparations are in earnest for their rendition of Ed Sheeran’s latest foot-stomping hit to mark 50 years since the founding leader of Iskcon, AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, landed on South African soil.

Iskcon’s Rivaaj Maharaj said 10 years later one of the most beautiful, award-winning masterpieces of architecture, the Sri Sri Radhanath Temple of Understanding, came into being. This year the temple marks its 40th anniversary, placing Durban on the international map and attracting thousands of domestic and international visitors annually.

“Visitors are enthralled by its tranquil atmosphere, manicured gardens, ornate design, where one can seek answers on attaining inner peace in one’s fast-paced daily life, and finish off the tour sampling the delectable treats from the affordable Govinda’s Restaurant.

“Everyone is invited to attend the evening at the Civic Centre and will not be disappointed by the invigorating music, dance, drama and song in a celebratory mood, spreading the message of love in humanity regardless of colour or creed.

“The many hours of free festivities will culminate in a multi-course free eastern cuisine to finish off the star-studded evening. Ample free, safe and secure parking is available,” said Maharaj.
