Former acting principal will miss school’s family ethos
The former acting principal at Forest View Primary School Vijay Ramlall says he thanks God for placing him amid people who could guide, shape and support him on his journey.
RETIRING Forest View Primary School acting principal Vijay Ramlall said he will miss the “family ethos” among the staff, pupils and parents.
After 20 years and six months at Forest View, Ramlall served his last day as the school’s acting principal on July 31.
With 42 years as a teacher, Ramlall said one of his career highlights has been working with and leading the teachers at Forest View.
“I love teaching maths, I will miss that too. The interaction with the learners, the teamwork among staff, this is a lovely school, the sports days and prize-givings, I will miss all of that,” said Ramlall.

Ramlall graduated from the then University of Durban-Westville (now UKZN – Westville Campus) as an accounting, business economics and economics educator in 1982.
His first teaching post was at ML Sultan Secondary in Pietermaritzburg, which he took up on January 17, 1983.
He then taught at Lenham, Parkvale and Hillgrove primary schools before he was promoted to head of department at Kloof Senior Primary in 2001.
Working at Forest View Primary
In 2005 he joined Forest View Primary, where he served as the departmental head of the intermediate and senior phase, before being appointed as the acting principal on August 1, 2024.
“It is indeed a bittersweet moment for me as I prepare to say goodbye to a chapter that has meant so much to me. I feel immense gratitude for the journey, the people and the purpose that this role has given me,” said Ramlall.
He further thanked God for having had a hand of guidance over him throughout his career, which has been successful as he guided, shaped, motivated and educated young minds “so that they could become successful and worthy leaders and members of society”.
“I thank God for placing me amid people who could guide, shape and support me well on my journey,” said Ramlall.
He said being a departmental head was both a challenge and a privilege. It required him to exercise patience, resilience and constant learning, and the role brought him pride, fulfilment and unforgettable moments.
“I have had the opportunity to work alongside an extraordinary team of senior management members and educators – all talented, dedicated educators who bring not only skill to their teaching but also infuse their work with passion and dedication. I thank all my colleagues in the senior primary phase for their trust, their collaboration and friendship. We laughed together, stressed over deadlines and celebrated every success, big and small. It has been a joy to be part of a team that truly supports one another,” said Ramlall.
