Illegal immigrants working as delivery motorcyclists arrested in Westville
Metro police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed that one of the arrested illegal immigrants, a Malawian national, allegedly attempted to bribe a police officer with R500.
THE Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS) strike team arrested 10 illegal immigrants working as delivery motorcyclists on Monday, September 1.
According to a brief statement shared on the DMPS social media platforms, the illegal immigrants were arrested in the Westville area “for not having the proper documentation to be in the country”.
“During the operation, one foreign national from Malawi attempted to bribe a police officer with R500. He was immediately arrested and faces an additional charge of attempted bribery.
“Durban Metro Police remains firm against illegal activities, and committed to upholding the law, and ensuring the safety and integrity of our communities,” reads the statement.

DMPS spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the arrested illegal immigrants will be handed over to the SAPS, which will conduct further investigations.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, September 3, the eThekwini Municipality council is set to debate a motion tabled by ActionSA calling for the establishment of a specialised unit within the DMPS “to address illegal immigration, drug-related crimes, and the hijacking of buildings”.
“To fight heavily against these crimes, we further called for collaboration with key authorities, including SAPS and the Department of Home Affairs, to ensure effective law enforcement,” said the party.
