Man accused of raping 8-year-old child back at Pinetown court
The matter was adjourned in July for September 4 for further investigation after the presiding officer reinstated the bail of the accused who had been rearrested on allegations of violating his bail conditions.
The 29-year-old man accused of raping an eight-year-old child from Clermont is due back at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 4.
The matter was adjourned in July for September 4 for further investigation after the presiding officer reinstated the bail of the accused who had been rearrested on allegations of violating his bail conditions.
Handing down judgment to reinstate the 29-year-old’s bail, the presiding officer had indicated that that decision was neither a comment on the rape offence nor an indication of the man’s innocence or guilt.

“The crime of rape, the rape of an eight-year-old child, is a heinous, horrendous offence and the accused must bear the full wrath of the court in trial,” the presiding officer had said at the time.
The matter had drawn the attention and support of some Clermont community members, including those affiliated with various political parties, which include the ANC, EFF and uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP).
These supporters had gathered outside the court precinct, some even in the gallery, in support of the victim and her mother in previous proceedings.
