Memorial bench honours Kloof resident’s memory

The Kloof Project said residents are welcome to relax at the new memorial bench and can also place a plaque in memory of a loved one.

TO honour the memory of long-time resident Don King, The Kloof Project installed a memorial bench along the railway line below the Humpy Bridge on Willingdon Road.

Kerry Harper, a representative from The Kloof Project, said King was a dedicated supporter of the project and a familiar sight in the community, often spending many hours on his trusty ride-on mower to help keep the railway line and verge along Willingdon clear, ensuring residents could walk safely.

“This tribute was made possible through the support of The Kloof Project, who were asked to assist, and the generous sponsorship of the Isimangaliso Consortium, represented by Arayan Govindasamy, a proud Kloof resident himself.”

Harper explained that the idea for the bench came from both the Schroeder Family and Tracey King, Don’s daughter.

“They wanted something simple yet meaningful, a peaceful spot in the heart of the village where family, friends, and community members can pause, reflect, and remember the beautiful memories of treasured souls.

“Thanks to this collaboration, we now have a lasting place of peace and remembrance where Don’s spirit, and the memory of others, can be felt,” said Harper.

She added that residents are invited to use this space.

Families who would like to place a plaque in memory of their loved ones may contact The Kloof Project chairman, Kevin Schroeder, on 083 225 3793.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
