Could your family heirloom be worth a fortune?

Ever wondered if that old watch or dusty heirloom could be worth thousands? Antique expert Andy Elton is back in Hillcrest and he's ready to reveal the hidden value in your treasures.

ANTIQUE expert Andy Elton is back in Hillcrest and he’s on the hunt for hidden treasures.

With decades of experience and a sharp eye for value, Elton has appraised everything from vintage watches to war medals, once shelling out R65 000 for a single Rolex.

Now, he’s inviting locals to bring their keepsakes, curiosities, and collectables for a professional evaluation that could turn sentiment into serious cash.

Elton, with vast experience that includes presenting the Antiques Roadshow and What’s in the Attic, said this will be the fifth or sixth edition of the viewing of items in Hillcrest.

“People like to research the history of their belongings, they ask about how old the items are, how it was made, and who manufactured it, things like that, and I like helping them, it is nice,” said Elton.

Items which spark people’s curiosities, he said, also include swords and bayonets, “across the board, really”.

Some the items are family heirlooms from parents and grandparents, whilst others are at times purchased by people.

“The downside is when you have to tell someone that an item they thought was very valuable is not as valuable as they thought, but the upside is when you tell them an item is worth more than they had thought,” said Elton.

Elton has immense experience in appraising valuable items, which include silverware, medals and collectables.

Elton will view items for a limited time at the Hillcrest Library in the meeting room on Wednesday, October 1 from 10:00 to 14:00.

People wishing to sell their items will be paid money immediately. Diamonds are still in high demand as well as rings, brooches, earrings, pendants and studs. Identification will be required.

For more information, Elton can be reached on 076 334 7795 or WhatsApp 0044 776 851 3132 or email info@bentleysuk.com or visit www.bentleysuk.com.

Elton will also be at the Riverside Hotel in Durban North on Tuesday, September 30, from 10:00 to 13:00.
