Upper Highway New Year clean-up
The Upper Highway Ratepayers’ and Residents Association has also launched a petition to have fireworks banned following the “horrendous” experience on New Year’s Eve.
SOME Upper Highway residents on Thursday, January 8, took to the Crestholme area to conduct a clean-up by picking up litter in the area, something they have done voluntarily for almost five years.
Julie Cox of the ratepayers’ association said seven bags were filled with litter by the trio, Alison Longford Hollow, Wendy Henstock and her daughter Ella, who voluntarily conducted the clean-up.
Yvonne Lovie from Jocks Store was thanked for making a contribution towards the clean-up effort.
“It is not just one issue that is a problem here. We do a lot of things,” said Cox.
She added that the association has also launched a petition to have fireworks banned following the “horrendous” experience on New Year’s Eve.

“It was like a war zone,” lamented Cox, who said the local SPCA has also been contacted to assist with the petition.
Meanwhile, Cox said a follow-up meeting which had been scheduled for December was never convened to discuss residents’ service delivery concerns.
This meeting had been meant to provide residents with updates on issues they had raised at a previous gathering held in late November.
These concerns included infrastructure upgrades, including for electricity and water.
The eThekwini Municipality has said that the constant power outages in the area were a result of copper theft, among other things.
