JUST IN: Scholar transport vehicle crashes into a tree in Sarnia

Nine learners were injured in a crash on Sarnia Road in Pinetown, prompting an emergency response and traffic disruptions.

SEVERAL learners have been injured in a crash incident in Pinetown today. It happened just hours after a tragic crash in Vanderbijlpark which claimed at least 13 young lives.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, nine learners sustained injuries ranging from mild to moderate following a crash on Sarnia Road, Pinetown, on Monday, January 19.

“It is believed that the driver of a vehicle transporting nine schoolchildren home lost control and hit a tree,” Jamieson said.

He added that paramedics are stabilising the injured learners, who will be transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

Jamieson described the scene as chaotic, with distressed parents rushing to the area. “Traffic is heavily congested as multiple ambulances are on scene,” he said.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.
