City’s municipal workers arrested for driving under the influence

The Metro Police say the three eThekwini Municipality employees were driving marked municipal vehicles at the time of their arrest.

OVER the weekend, the Durban Metro Police Service arrested three employees from eThekwini Municipality for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The metro police said two of the employees are from the Water and Sanitation Department and one of them is an intern from the Economic Development Department.

“All three suspects were driving marked municipal vehicles at the time of their arrest. The Durban Metro Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law. Municipal branding or employment status does not exempt any individual from enforcement action.

The Durban Metro Police say one of the eThekwini Municipality employees arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol over the weekend is an intern from the Economic Development Department.

“These arrests demonstrate our continued commitment to road safety, accountability, and ethical conduct, both within and outside municipal structures,” the municipality said in a statement.

“Members of the public are urged to report reckless and drunk driving on 031 361 0000.

“Let us work together to keep our roads safe.”
